Penetration testing for businesses across Scotland and the UK

A penetration test is a planned, authorised attempt to break in, so you find the weak spots before an attacker does. Cloud Guard scopes tests for businesses across Scotland and the rest of the UK.

A penetration test is a planned, authorised attempt to break into your systems that shows how an attacker could get in and what to fix first. Cloud Guard Technologies tests websites, remote access, office networks, and Microsoft 365 for businesses across the UK.

Ethical hacking, done properly

We test your defences the way an attacker would

Within a scope you sign off, we look for the weak points an attacker would use in your websites, internet-facing systems, office network, or Microsoft 365.

You get a plain English report that shows how someone could get in, what they could reach, and what to fix first.

What does a penetration test give you?

A clear report of how someone could get in, what they could reach, and what to fix first.

A clear scope

We agree what is in and out before any work starts: websites, internet-facing systems, the office network, or Microsoft 365. Nothing is tested without your sign-off.

Findings in plain English

Each issue comes with how serious it is, why it matters to the business, and the fix. Your team or ours can then work through the list.

Part of a wider plan

Testing sits next to risk assessments, Cyber Essentials, and staff training. It is one layer of defence, not the only one.

Help after the report

If the test finds something urgent, the IT Security Desk and our support team can help you close it quickly.

Scan, test, or Cyber Essentials Plus?

These are often mixed up. Here is the short version.

Vulnerability scan

An automated check for known weaknesses. Quick and useful, but it does not show how problems link together.

Penetration test

A person tries to get in within an agreed scope and shows what they could reach. This is the service on this page.

Cyber Essentials Plus

A government-backed technical check that the five Cyber Essentials controls work. Often asked for by public sector buyers.

Penetration testing across Scotland and the UK

Much of the testing is done remotely, so location is rarely a barrier. These local pages cover our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices, and our Carluke headquarters looks after Lanarkshire.

When to start somewhere else

If a buyer has asked for a certificate, start with Cyber Essentials. If phishing or a compromised account is already a problem, go to the IT Security Desk. If ransomware is the worry, read about disaster recovery.

A team you can call by name

Questions we are asked

What is a penetration test?

A planned, authorised attempt to break into your systems. It shows how an attacker could get in, what they could reach, and what to fix first.

How is it different from Cyber Essentials Plus?

Cyber Essentials Plus checks that five set controls work. A penetration test looks more widely at how someone could actually get in. Many businesses do both.

What can you test?

Websites, remote access, the office network, and Microsoft 365. We agree the scope with you before we start.

Which areas do you cover?

Businesses across Scotland and the rest of the UK. Much of the testing can be done remotely. We have three offices: our headquarters at 24B Hamilton Street, Carluke, ML8 4HA, Clyde Offices, 2nd Floor, West George Street, Glasgow, Scotland, G2 1BP, and Office 587, 18 Young Street, UNIT LGE, Edinburgh, EH2 4JB, Scotland.

What do we get at the end?

A plain-English report with each issue, how serious it is, and how to fix it. We can help with the fixes too.
